Geotoura –Hotel concept

When we include a hotel in our programme, it is not only a high standard of quality that is important to us. We prefer typical local accommodation, often boutique hotels with a special ambience. They emphasise the character of an individual trip: Panoramic views, particularly lovely furnishings, a location in historic centres, no mass tourism and, of course, exceptionally friendly hosts – these are important criteria for us.

We divide our hotels into four separate Geotoura categories. Of course, you have the choice and can also combine the categories on one trip.

Boutique Hotels –Four categories

Encantador (“Charming”): Our most affordable option. Lovingly furnished rooms that offer everything the discerning traveller expects.

Especial (“Special”): Hotels with a special ambience – historic palaces, monasteries, haciendas or beach hotels with exceptional charm. Perfect for the classic cultural tour.

Extraordinario (“Extraordinary”): Luxurious hotels in excellent locations and with the highest level of comfort, often in centuries-old aristocratic palaces, old oil mills or haciendas.

Luna de Miel (“honeymoon”): For the honeymoon – span. Luna de miel – or if you want to treat yourself to something out of the ordinary …

Character ofthis travel idea

If you want to see and experience a lot in a short time and still relax, this 8-day round trip along the east coast of Spain is just right for you. Between beaches, museums, magnificent architecture and breathtaking natural landscapes, you will experience everything that makes this region so endearing.

Experienceculture

Take the bus, the cable car or the Cremallera, the cog railway, up into a breathtaking landscape where one of the most famous monasteries in the world stands nestled against the rock: Montserrat. It has stood in the solitude of this spectacular setting since 1025 and is home to La Morenata, a famous statue of the Madonna from the 12th century, which you can still visit today in a chapel lit by countless candles.

At least as exciting is the monastery museum, where you will discover an Egyptian sarcophagus from the 22nd century BC as well as works by Dalí and El Greco. In the library next door, bibliophiles can indulge in more than 200,000 prints, manuscripts and papyri, some of which are very old.

If you are a museum lover, Valencia is the perfect place for you on this 8-day round trip along the east coast of Spain. A special gem is the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias, where art meets science in a futuristic setting and is home to the largest aquarium in Europe.

Experiencenature

The east coast of Spain is a wonderful paradise with fine sandy beaches, a gentle breeze and the turquoise-blue Mediterranean Sea. Relaxing on the beach or taking a walk through the endless dunes is the order of the day here. You can also explore the exciting nature reserve of the Ebro Delta. The Ebro flows into the sea at the second stop on your 8-day round trip along the east coast of Spain.

From Tortosa, it is only a stone’s throw to the flamingos that stalk through the brackish water here. They share the picturesque landscape with more than 800 different plant species and 400 bird species alone. Where the Ebro flows into the sea, you can take a lively dive into life in all its facets.

Spanish east coastfrom fire and sea

You will certainly be familiar with one dish that originated on the east coast of Spain: paella. Valencia is the home of this dish made from fish, meat, seafood, rice and vegetables. Like all good things from the sea, it is known as Paella Valenciana on the menus of more than just its home city. Fideuà is quite similar to paella, but is made with vermicelli. It may be less well-known, but it is at least as delicious.

Arroz negro, black rice coloured with squid ink, is also a real treat. Do you prefer vegetarian food? Then your choice on Spain’s east coast is surprisingly large. Treat yourself to the simple but aromatic flavour of pa amb tomàquet, the Catalan tomato bread. Try the escalivada, a salad of grilled vegetables, or go hearty with the bullit, a rich stew with potatoes, vegetables and beans. No matter what is being cooked, the locals prefer to use their olive oil as fat for all savoury dishes. For dessert, you should treat yourself at least once to a real sin, the crema catalana. Horchata, an ice-cold milk made from tiger nuts, is somewhat lighter and a favourite refreshment.

The authenticEast coast of Spain

Why not discover the culinary side of Valencia? The home of Paella Valenciana will show you what originally went into the paella. You will learn the difference between the Valenciana and the equally popular paella marinera.

You might also try the fideuá, a very tasty pan-fried dish with noodles similar to paella. If you’re lucky, the host will tell you an anecdote or two about the origins of these dishes or reveal a little secret about the house recipe.
